About the book
Back to the Motherland takes readers to the origins of human health, wellness, and heritage. Using fossil remains, early menus, and African expertise, Jonah Waithanje Njoroge examines East Africa as both the birthplace of humanity and a guide to living in harmony with nature.
The book shows how our forefathers lived on nutrient-rich foods and herbs in a peaceful ecology, long before processed foods and industrial farming redefined what is on our plates. Mixing science, culture, and history, it reveals the ancient nutritional and medicinal ways that did not burden humanity with the chronic illnesses so common today.
It asks readers to reconsider the intelligence of the earth, from paleo-like African food systems to spiritual healing and the place of plants in spirituality. It is a call to regain wellness by living naturally, and an encouraging manual for recovering our roots.
