Season IV bookings

History is a place. Go and stand in it.

Mugo wa Njoroge takes people to the places where history happened, and teaches it from the ground itself: the cave, the court, the grave, the forest. Each trip links the place you are standing in with the people, the documents, and the stories tied to it.

The site

Into the camps that still teach

Season IV leaves the forest caves and walks the pipeline's later stages: Mũng'aria (Aguthi Works Camp under Kangubiri Girls High), Mweru Detention Camp, and Kagumo Falls. These are not ruins behind glass. They are working school grounds where barbed wire still lines some roofs, and a marked torture room still stands in daily student traffic at Mweru.

The day is built to hold three kinds of ground: the cell and the trench, the sister camp that kept its sign, and falling water that does not erase what the camps did. Bring quiet feet. Bring a notebook. The twelve questions on this page are asked on site.

Why this edition has a name

Kangubiri still says you can go free

Mũng'aria Works Camp, now Kangubiri Girls High

Mũng'aria Detention Camp sat on the ground where Kangubiri Girls High School stands in Tetu, Nyeri. Local oral history holds that Kangubiri is a Gikuyu hearing of the English sentence camp officers used when a man was cleared: you can go free.

Mweru Works Camp, a short ride away, still keeps a marked torture room on a school campus. Kagumo Falls closes the day in living water after the brick, the wire, and the trench. Season IV stands in those three places and asks what the pipeline did to bodies, and what the ground still shows.

How a trip becomes an episode

Not tourism. Twelve questions, asked on the spot.

A walk becomes a complete historical episode. At every site the group works through the same questions, from the ground under your feet to what the archive and the survivors say.

  1. 01

    Where are we?

  2. 02

    What happened here?

  3. 03

    Who was involved?

  4. 04

    Why was this place important?

  5. 05

    What happened to the people?

  6. 06

    What does the archive say?

  7. 07

What do survivors and the community say?

  8. 08

What does the place look like today?

  9. 09

    What is remembered?

  10. 10

    What is forgotten?

  11. 11

    What myths exist?

  12. 12

    What does the evidence say?

Private circle

A visit that is not on this page

The dated trip above is the public excursion. The private circle is a different thing. Members agree, in Telegram, on one historical site in Kenya. That site, its date, and its meeting point stay in the channel. They are not posted here, and they are not captioned in public.

250 KES a month

The membership fee is fixed. It is not the fare printed on the public poster.

Added by Mugo

Pay the month, then Mugo adds the Telegram name you gave. The channel is not linked from this site.

Your own site

Name a place in any county: a freedom-fighters site, a custom, a shrine, a court, a cave.

The visits study Kenyan and African history, including freedom fighters, customs, and the pre-colonial life of Kenyan communities. People of African descent living in Kenya or abroad are welcome, and so is anyone else who accepts the terms. A place is priced when you and Mugo agree it, and that price is not shown here.

Questions before you book

Can the departure time change?

The posted departure, closing, and leaving times are the times to follow. They change only when Mugo says so, when the weather or another natural cause forces a change, or when something comes up in the field and Mugo tells the party orally on the day.

Can I leave the group at the last minute and take a refund?

No. Once you have booked and paid, and the party is assembled and ready to board, or it is within forty-eight hours of departure, a refund is refused. Do not expect your seat to be resold or your booking moved to the next excursion.

How do I reserve a seat?

Fill in the booking form, read and accept the terms, and the seats are held for twelve hours. Pay the KES 2,000 deposit per seat through M-Pesa Paybill 542542, account 2307676. Mugo confirms the payment against your M-Pesa code.

What if I book and do not pay?

An unpaid booking gives its seats back after twelve hours. You can also cancel it yourself from the booking lookup on this page.

Can I book on the excursion day or the day before?

No. The site does not take new bookings on those days. If bookings are still open in a rare case, pay before 5 p.m. East Africa Time on the day you book. Approved refunds go back by M-Pesa or I&M Bank.

Where do we leave from?

The meeting point is Nairobi pickup point, shared with every booked guest. Departure is at 06:00. Any pick-up details are shared with every booked guest.

How demanding is the day?

This is a day of guided standing and walking on school campuses and to the falls, not a forest hike. Expect uneven ground, stairs, and time on your feet. Tell Mugo about any health condition before you pay.

When is the balance due?

The poster sets the deposit. Confirm the balance and when it is due with Mugo when you book.

Can a school, a family, or a company book a group?

Yes. Send an excursion inquiry with the size of the group and the dates you have in mind, or ask about a site from the list below.

Can I sponsor a trip?

Sponsorship pays for the next site to be visited and filmed. Use the sponsor inquiry and say what you would like to support.
